Kimi ni Todoke is a classic romance manga and anime series that is close to the fans' hearts. It features sweet romance, likable characters and a beautiful story that we can’t really get enough of. The good news for all the Kimi no Todoke fans is that it’s getting a live-action drama series adaptation and is set to premiere on March 30 worldwide exclusively on Netflix! The drama series is directed by Takehiko Shinjo and Takeo Kikuchi. Both these directors had previously directed Your Lie in April and Hello Goodbye respectively. Kimi ni Todoke was created by the talented manga artist Karuho Shiina. Shiina was born in Hokkaido, Japan and began her career as a manga artist in 2002. She is best known for her work on Kimi ni Todoke, which has since become one of the most popular manga series of all time. Kimi ni Todoke was first released in Japan in 2005 as a monthly serial in the shojo manga magazine Bessatsu Margaret. The series was published by Shueisha and quickly became one of the most popular manga series in Japan. It is collected into 30 tankobon volumes. In 2009, the series was licensed for English language release by Viz Media, who published the first volume of the manga in North America. Since then, Kimi ni Todoke has been translated into multiple languages and has become a beloved series all over the world. The anime adaptation of the series was produced by the animation studio Production I.G. and directed by Takenori Mihara. It was released in Japan on January 4, 2011. The anime series has a total of 12 episodes. The story of Kimi ni Todoke revolves around the life of Sawako Kuronuma, a shy and misunderstood girl who is often mistaken for the ghostly character Sadako from the Japanese horror film "The Ring". Despite her kind and gentle nature, Sawako struggles to make friends and is often isolated from her classmates. However, her life takes a turn for the better when she meets the popular and friendly Shota Kazehaya, who takes an interest in her and helps her come out of her shell.
